The organization I’m working with for my capstone project for my undergraduate degree is givi
ng away an FJ60.
QL+ is a nonprofit who works closely with wounded veterans on accessibility and quality of life improvement projects. They frequently work with Engineering students on capstone projects, like myself. For instance, right now my group is designing a voice-activated bike shifting system for a retired officer who was blown up by an IED, leaving him with no legs and most of one hand.
Tickets for the giveaway are $100, and I think it may count as a charitable donation for tax purposes? I dunno. Regardless, if any of you guys are into this sort of thing, I’d give it a go. I mean, come on. FJ60.

When I was in the Navy one of my buddys had a poo brown FJ60 and I loved that truck. I may enter this just for the nostalgia.
Also, that sounds like an interesting capstone project, I’d love to hear how it turns out. And thank you for picking a project to support veterans.

Thanks for helping vets, I’ll take it if you can’t find anyone who will. I’m involved in a couple organizations, oh and in the MVPA we take part in several things as well. This last week they raffled off a jeep in a crate, a replica/repro MB packed they way they shipped in WWII.

That project sounds cool! I’m interested in the basics of how it works. Is it just him saying
shift up, shift down?
It’s
a motorcycle I take it? Do you deal with the clutch at all or is it a manumatic if that’s what it’s called, we had a 4 wheeler that was like that. Just shift up and down with no clutch use.

Nope- it’s a hand-powered three wheel bike. All he does is say “up” or “down”. It’s mostly just interfacing a mic with a voice recognition module to a microcontroller to a shifter for the electronic shifting system he already uses. This way he doesn’t have to take his good arm off the crank to hit a button to shift.
Here’s how he does it:
Unfortunately, there's no video I can find of him using his existing system nor can I share the video we have of what we've made due to University and QL+ IP rules. We've been featured in a few news sources, though.
